AKSEPWMA Advocated Synergy with Correctional Centres on Waste Management

 



In a bid to strengthen waste management practices and policies  in Akwa Ibom State, the the State waste management agency (AKSEPWMA) is set to Collaborate with Correctional Centres in the State.


The Chairman of the  Agency, Obong Prince Ikim,  pledged to forge a strategic partnership with the Correctional Centres, Monday, during a courtesy call to the Agency by the State Controller of Corrections, Mr Frank Okonkwo and the Assistant Controller of Corrections Mr Ezekiel Ebenezer Inyang respectively. 


This synergy aims to enhance the overall waste management system, promoting a cleaner and healthier environment in all the Correctional centers in Akwa Ibom State.


Under this collaboration, AKSEPWMA will work closely with the Correctional Centres to identify areas of mutual interest and develop effective strategies for managing waste. This partnership is expected to not only improve waste management practices but also provide opportunities for inmates to acquire new skills and contribute to the state's environmental sustainability as some of the inmates in the non-custodial unit will be incorporated into working with men of the Agency.






As AKSEPWMA continues to innovate and expand its services, this partnership with the Correctional Centres marks a significant step towards achieving its vision of a cleaner, greener Akwa Ibom.


Mr Frank Okonkwo during his speech earlier, commended the Chairman, Obong Prince Ikim for his relentless efforts in keeping Akwa Ibom Clean, thereby being the Cleanest State for six consecutive times. 


Mr Okonkwo went further to implore that more dumpsters to be positioned in strategic points at different centers as this would curb mishandling of waste and littering. 

He also appealed that some inmates of the non-custodial unit , that is, those for community services be incorporated into working with the Agency.


Still on courtesy visit, the Assistant Controller of Corrections, Mr Ezekiel Ebenezer Inyang, officer in-charge , medium security custodial center,Uyo also paid a courtesy visit to the Chairman of AKSEPWMA which coincided with the State Controller's visit and the discussions were also based on effective ways of managing waste in the Uyo correctional center.


He  appealed for more dumpsters to be located at strategic points of the facility .

This visit  prompted the Chairman to go on, on the spot inspection of the facility to indicate the best spot for placement of the dumpsters for easy access of evacuation.


Also present at the visit were,  AC of Corrections Nse Mendie, CSC I. W. Ntia, SC Ogbajie Ogbajie, ASC Richard Metong, CA Etido Edo, the board members, Hon.Victor Bassey, Prince Charles Ememobong, Elder Anietie Elijah and Engr Ekaete Inyang and the management staff of the Agency.

AKIRS secures N1.2b judgement against Ardent Energy Services LTD ....warns against tax evasion

  The Akwa Ibom State Internal Revenue Service (AKIRS) has secured a landmark judgement against Ardent Energy Services Ltd, an oil servicing company operating in Akwa Ibom State. In a judgement delivered on July 3, 2025 at the Revenue Court of Akwa Ibom State, Uyo, by the Presiding Revenue Judge, Maureen-Idongesit M. Udoka, the court ordered the defendant to pay to the Akwa Ibom State Government, the sum of N1.2bilion, including penalty and interest on the principal sum.  The judgement was in consequence to Suit No. Rue/77C/2022, filed by AKIRS. With this judgement, which is a major milestone in AKIRS tax compliance drive, the agency warns taxpayers to willingly comply to their civic obligations of always paying their taxes as and when due as there was no hiding place for defaulters.
