Itorobong Etim Raises the Bar as Uruan Constituents Receive Massive Empowerment Lifeline

The Member representing Uruan State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Dr. Itorobong Etim, on Friday 9 January set a new benchmark for grassroots representation as she distributed empowerment items and cash support valued at several millions of naira to her constituents.

The landmark empowerment and constituency programme, held at Holy Trinity College, Mbiakong, Uruan drew a large crowd of residents, traditional leaders, youths, women groups and top government officials, all of whom applauded what they described as uncommon and people-oriented representation.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Etim thanked the people of Uruan for their consistent support from the campaign period to date, stressing that the empowerment was a token of appreciation and a reflection of her commitment to inclusive governance.

She presented her legislative scorecard, disclosing that she has sponsored two bills, co-sponsored 24 bills, raised five motions, facilitated vocational skills acquisition for about 100 persons, and attracted critical constituency projects in fulfillment of the constitutional duties of representation, lawmaking and oversight.



The empowerment exercise featured the distribution of 54 sewing machines, 11 grinding machines, 10 LCD repair tool kits, 11 motorcycles, 11 clippers with portable generators, eight tricycle trucks, four minibuses and four vehicles, alongside wide-ranging financial assistance.






Cash grants included ₦500,000 to 10 beneficiaries, ₦2.5 million each to two persons, ₦1 million to three persons, ₦500,000 to four groups, ₦100,000 to 77 persons, ₦250,000 to 10 persons, ₦200,000 to 20 persons, ₦5 million to selected youths, ₦2.5 million to stakeholders, and ₦1.1 million to 11 law students.

Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno who was represented by His Honorary Special Adviser on Legislative Matters, Hon. Emmanuel Bassey described the initiative as a rare show of gratitude, noting that Dr. Etim had gone beyond the statutory expectations of a lawmaker.

He tasked all to continue to give support to government as government was ever ready to deliver on its mandate.

The Chairman on the occasion and Secretary to State Government, Mr Enobong Uwah, represented by Hon. Aniekan Uko, called for unity and sustained support for the lawmaker, stating that her performance justified renewed confidence.

On his part The Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, lauded Dr. Etim as a capacity leader and described her as and engine room and driving force within the Assembly, particularly in her role as Chairman, House Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Dignitaries at the event included Senator Aniekan Bassey who was represented by Joseph Effiong, the Vice Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council, Obonganwan Grace Edem, Hon Mark Esset who was represented by his wife Dorcas, Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong, Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council among other political stakeholders.

Lawmakers present included the Deputy Speaker Hon. Kufreabasi Edidem, House Leader, Hon. Otobong Bob, Deputy Chief Whip, member representing Uyo, Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo, Hon. Precious Selong of Urueoffong/Oruko State Constituency, Selina Ukpatu of Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo State Constituency, Uwem Imo-Attah of Mkpat Enin State Constituency, Moses Essien of Ibiono State Constituency.
