By Edet Okpo, PhD

The Chairman, Senate Committee On Solid Minerals and Senator representing Akwa Ibom South (Eket ) Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Abuja, Senator Ekong Sampson PhD,

is truly making impact and difference in  the lives of his constituents  through provision Of quality Infrastructure such as roads, electricity, healthcare  Services, Education, human empowerment and capacity building initiatives, engagements in lucrative jobs. His huge investment in education especially in the provision of scholarship and grants to students is no small feat, and it is clear that he is  passionate about empowering the next generation.

In less than three years in Office, Senator Ekong Sampson has donated 20 exotic Cars,  buses and trycicles to some Of his Constituents. Within this Week, hẹ has donated  5 Exotic cars to his Constituents across the 3 federal Constituencies making Akwa Ibom South (Eket)Senatorial District: Họn. Barr. Ini Ikott from Onna, Eket Federal Constituency, Họn. Nkereuwem James from Mkpat Enin and Họn. Sampson Unyeawaji from Eastern Obolo Local Government Areas Of Ikot Abasi federal Constituency and Sir. This is excluding recent donation Of Exotic cars to the Chairman Of Youth Council in Mkpat Enin, other APC  Officials and Members and a bus to Traditional Rulers Council in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

Talk of impact, talk of Senator Ekong Sampson. His bespoke scorecard is widely celebrated as a paradigm shift in passion for service and narratives of representation in Akwa Ibom South (Eket) Senatorial District. Outstandingly, the former two terms State Assembly Lawmaker does not limit his services to his primary constituency but also extends the antenna across the three Senatorial Districts of the State.

Ekong Sampson is a textbook example of the People's lawmaker who knows the plights of his constituents and constantly provide solutions to them.  Other component of his empowerment packages, covering business grants, distribution of cars, mini buses, keke, motorcycles, sewing machines, fishing equipment and accessories, cash and lots more would soon be doled out.

It can be said without any sentiments or fear of contradiction  that this is the first time in the history of the Senatorial District that a senator has shown this level of commitment and impact on the lives of constituents.

Senator Ekong Sampson has  given priority attention to quality education. Hence, he is not only dolling out cash and Car gifts as evidence in his purpose driven representation but also  in the content and context of bills and motions he has contributed in the floor Of the Senate. Arguably, no senator, or not many of them, has been as education-inclined as senator Ekong Sampson who went to the National Assembly as a Ph.D holder. Of course, the secret for his passion and outstanding  commitment to dedicated public Service is not far-fetched. Senator Ekong Sampson is a man who has been molded by education. He constantly attributes the enviable successes in his profession,  public Service business endeavors and politics to the quality  education he has received at different stages of his intellectual feat.

To Senator Ekong Sampson, apart from providing quality Infrastructure and healthcare Services for his Constituents,  investment in education will always top his priority list because it is the most lethal weapon to combat ignorance, poverty, superstition and other forms of social vices in the society that have crushed the dreams of many.

Further touch-lighting the immediate and envisaged benefits of the grants, one can safely argue that there could be no better legacy nor greater milestone than advancing the cause of education. For one, the grants has assisted the  students who benefitted to meet their urgent financial needs, promote quality education, lesson financial burdens on various families, and served as morale-booster for many who never saw the possibility of their going to school in the new academic session. It therefore was no exaggeration when the Senator further  described the ₦100 million grant as a significant initiative and a catalyst in supporting and strengthening the education and economic development trajectory of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District.

In terms Of legislative engagements, Senator Ekong Sampson has Sponsored and co -sponsored several bills and motions aimed at addressing critical national and regional concerns including a bill for the establishment Of Federal University Of Technology, Ikot Abasi ( awaiting third reading and passage), Federal Medical Centres Amendment bill ( Passage into Law), a bill for the establishment Of Federal Medical Center in Eket,( Second reading) and a bill for the establishment Of South South Development Commission( Co- Sponsored and passed into Law as well as Strong advocacy for speedy take-off Of Federal University Of Maritime Studies, Oron.

Through advocacy at the  Plenary and Committee engagements, Senator Ekong Sampson has consistently raised issues bothering On Infrastructure development, maritime and coastal Economy, Environmental protection, youth empowerment,  education, industrial revolution and most prominently,  the call for the reactivation Of the moribund ALSCON in Ikot Abasi Local Government Area.
