SENATOR EKONG SAMPSON FLAGS- OFF TWO PROJECTS IN ORON TO IMMORTALISE LATE PASTOR OYONG ASUQUO...As LG Chairman, APC chieftain's, Community Leaders Laud Senator Sampson On Effective Representation

In furtherance of his sustained efforts in spreading quality  life- touching projects across the length and breadth of Akwa Ibom South ( Eket) Senatorial District,  the Chairman, Senate Committee On Solid Minerals and Senator representing Akwa Ibom South( Eket) Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Abuja, Senator Ekong Sampson PhD, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 flagged off  a Solar Powered Water Project and classroom Block at A.M.E Zion School, Idua Assang, in Oron Local Government Area. 


The lawmaker disclosed that when completed, the two projects will be named after his close ally and  colleague, late Hon. ( Pastor ) Oyong Etim Asuquo who was the Chairman Of Oron Local Government Council the  same time hẹ was the Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council.


Accompanied by some Members of former Local Government Chairmen Forum in Akwa Ibom State, (Class of 2003), including  Hon. Prince Uwem Ita Etuk, former Chairman of Ibesikpo Asutan  Local Government Area and former State Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP); Hon. Prince Edet Umotong, former  Chairman Of Ikono Local Government Area; Hon. Emmanuel Essien, former Chairman of Oruk Anam Local Government Area, Hon. Awawa Ekaenang of Uruan Local Government Area, among others,  Senator Ekong Sampson stated that he decided to  site  the two projects in  the village of  late Pastor Oyong Etim Asukwo, also a former Commissioner in the State Executive Council,  whom he described as a dependable ally, bridge builder, grassroots mobiliser and  a detribalised politician who made a lot of sacrifices to ensure the success of some of his colleagues.



Affirming that though  late, his memories and the legacies he left behind are still fresh in the minds of those who had quality encounters with him, while alive. Senator Sampson noted that executing the two projects in  Idua community and naming them after late Oyong Asukwo was his own way of immortalising a patriot and politician of note who contributed significantly to the peace, unity and socio political development of Akwa Ibom State.







Reiterating his unwavering commitment towards improving education, healthcare services and other infrastructure in the twelve local government areas of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District in line with the Arise Agenda of the Governor Umo Eno- led administration and the Renewed Hope Initiatives of  President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,  Senator Ekong Sampson also expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Senate President, Senator (Dr) Godswil Akpabio, GCON, for assisting him to facilitate the ongoing erosion control project in Ekeya, Okobo Local Government Area and the Management of Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), especially their  Executive Director of Projects, Sir Dr. Victor Antai for their intervention in the ongoing construction of  Ikot Unya- Nung Ukim and  Ikot Ekpe Road Project .

The Senator expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Dr. Akon Eyakenyi and the Chairman of Oron Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Asukwo Enweme for maintaining peace in Oron local government area and for galvanising support for Governor Umo Eno and President Bola Tinubu's second  term project.


In their separate remarks, the Chairman of Oron Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Asukwo Enweme, the Eket Senatorial District Vice Chairman of All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. Cyril Enemi, APC State Officer from Oron, Mr. Asukwo Effiong Etim, former Chairman, Transition Committee in Oron Local Government Area, Hon. Hogan Bassey, Eket Senatorial District PDP Vice Chairman, Barr. Ekpong Edemumoh and other Community leaders from Idua Assang and Oron Local Government Area, gave Senator Ekong Sampson a pat on the back for raising the bar of representation in the Senate through  sponsorship of quality bills,  motions and advocies bothering on infrastructure development, maritime and coastal economy, environmental protection, youth empowerment, employment and capacity building, and even spread of projects across the 12 local government areas of Akwa Ibom South ( Eket) Senatorial District.


They also commended the Senator for attracting quality projects to Oron Local Government Area and his thoughtfulness in immortalising  their former Chairman, late Pastor Oyong Asukwo, whom they said was  their political icon. They were also unanimous in assuring Senator Sampson of their unflinching and overwhelming support for his second term election in 2027, warning critics not to distract the Senator from focus with useless propaganda and conspiracy theories. 


It would be recalled that Senator Ekong Sampson has sponsored and co-sponsored several bills in the National Assembly including a bill for the establishment Of Federal University Of Technology, Ikot Abasi ( awaiting third reading and passage), Federal Medical Centers Amendment bill ( Passage into Law), a bill for the establishment Of Federal Medical Center in Eket,( Second reading) and a bill for the establishment Of South South Development Commission( Co- Sponsored and passed into Law as well as Strong advocacy for speedy take-off Of Federal University Of Maritime Studies, Oron.


Other strides include recent disbursement  Of 100 Million Naira Education Grants for 500 Students and 25 teachers,  massive empowerment and training Programmes, employment Of over 40 Constituents in Federal MDAs, donation Of more than 250 Millions Naira, Cars, trycicles and business Grants to Constituents and APC  Party Structure in Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District,  ongoing erosion control Project in Ekeya,Okobo, provision Of electrification  Project with 500KVA transformer in Ikot Akpandem, Okon Eket, Eyobiasang in Urue Offong Oruko,  Solar -powered  boreholes and lighting in  Several Communities,  Construction Of ICT/Computer- based Test Centres at Excellence College, Mkpat Enin, St. Francis Secondary School, Ikot Ataku, Eket and St. Vincen Secondary School,Oti Oro in Okobo Local Government Area, Construction Of Staff quarters and hostel at Excellence College,  School block at Federal University Of Technology,Ikot Abasi, Construction Of Medical facilities in Immanuel Hospiral, Eket, General Hospital Ikot Abasi and General Hospital, Iquita in Oron Local Government Area, among others.


In his remarks, the former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP); and former Member of Akwa Ibom State Executive Council, Hon. Prince Uwem Ita Ituk, described Senator Ekong Sampson as an exemplary, result - oriented, performing  lawmaker and politician with a large heart. He saluted the ingenuity of Senator Ekong Sampson in executing projects in memory of one of their departed Colleagues and called on the stakeholders of Eket Senatorial District to support Senator Ekong Sampson, beyond 2027.

Financial Impropriety, Abuse Of Power: AKHA Receives Petition Against Ikono Chairman
