Residents of Idu Uruan on Friday, January 9, 2026, witnessed the official handover of an ultra-modern civic centre by the Member representing Uruan State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Dr. Itorobong Etim, in a move widely described as a boost to grassroots governance.
The newly completed facility, fitted with solar-powered lighting and a borehole, is part of the lawmaker’s constituency projects aimed at strengthening social infrastructure and improving access to basic amenities at the community level.
Addressing stakeholders and residents during the ceremony, Dr. Etim said the project reflects her resolve to deliver people-focused interventions that respond directly to the needs of her constituents. She also disclosed that similar projects are underway in other parts of the constituency, including the construction of another civic centre with a solar-powered water facility, and the remodelling and reconstruction of town halls and water projects in Ekpene Ukim and Mbiakong Uruan.
The Village Head of Idu Uruan, Obong Godwin Edet Okoho, described the civic centre as a landmark achievement that would serve as a centre for meetings, social events and community development activities, while contributing to improved living standards.
Community members who spoke at the event applauded the lawmaker for prioritising rural development and for addressing long-standing needs, particularly access to clean water. They noted that the project symbolises responsive representation and renewed confidence in democratic governance.
The handover ceremony was characterised by jubilation and expressions of support for Dr. Etim, with residents offering prayers and pledging continued solidarity with her leadership.
The civic centre commissioning followed Dr. Etim’s Constituency Briefing and Empowerment Programme held earlier the same day, during which she presented her performance report and distributed empowerment items and financial support to constituents. The initiative has continued to attract commendation from across Uruan, with observers highlighting the impact of the programmes spearheaded by the constituency’s first female representative in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.
