The Managing Director of the South-South Development Commission (SSDC), Ms. Usoro Akpabio, has reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to inclusive and people-driven development as she graced a festive-season empowerment and outreach programme in ONNA Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

The empowerment event, hosted by the Commissioner for Finance and Special Duties, Mr. Emem Bob, and his wife, attracted community members, political stakeholders and beneficiaries who converged to celebrate social inclusion, empowerment and responsive governance.

Speaking at the event, the SSDC Managing Director expressed deep appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, and Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, for championing empowerment-driven initiatives across the South-South region under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

She noted that the programme reflected the core values of Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, describing it as a practical demonstration of the administration’s commitment to grassroots development, social inclusion and improved livelihoods for the people of Akwa Ibom State.

According to her, the success and impact of the initiative underscore the collective vision and leadership of the three leaders, whose policies, she said, continue to translate into tangible benefits for citizens at the community level.

Ms. Akpabio particularly commended Senator Godswill Akpabio for his instrumental role in the establishment of the headquarters of the South-South Development Commission in Akwa Ibom State, describing the move as a strategic step towards regional development and institutional effectiveness.

She also praised the Senate President’s gender-sensitive leadership, noting that her appointment as Managing Director of the Commission at the age of 45 has further strengthened women and youth participation in governance across the South-South region.

The SSDC MD stressed that the confidence reposed in her comes with a responsibility to deliver inclusive, impactful and sustainable development across Akwa Ibom State and the entire South-South region, adding that there is no room for failure in meeting the aspirations of the people.

According to him, what was once intended as a celebration of academic accomplishment has, in recent years, become synonymous with indecent dressin...

The motion presented before the House seeks to discontinue the consumption and sale of dog meat in Akwa Ibom State has failed to scale through the floor of the State House of Assembly after it received no seconder during plenary.
