Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, has lauded the academic excellence put up by 18 indigenes of the state who graduated as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP II) during the Regular Course-2 of the Nigeria Police Academy. In its avowed determination to give the Free and Compulsory Education the legal backing it deserves, the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has moved to establish a law for the provision of free tuition and examination fees in public schools in the state to aid sustainability. This follows a "Bill For a Law to Provide For Free Tuition and Examination Fees in Public Primary and Secondary Schools in Akwa Ibom State and for Related Matters," sponsored by the Leader of the House, Sir Udo Kierian Akpan (member for Oruk Anam). Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has called on the State Ministry of Health and other relevant authorities, to be proactive in curtailing the resurgence of Lassa Fever in Akwa Ibom State. The call was made at Plenary on Tuesday, following a Motion brought before the House by the Member representing Etinan State Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Aniefiok Denis.
