Ekpo-Ufot Demands Urgent Road Repairs for Command Science School, Efa

By Asuquo Edem

Concerned about worsening infrastructure and its impact on education, Hon. (Engr.) Uduak-Obong Ekpo-Ufot, representing Etinan State Constituency, has called on the Akwa Ibom State Government to immediately commence the construction of internal road networks at Command Science Secondary School, Efa.

Presenting a motion on the floor of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Ekpo-Ufot also advocated for the completion of a connecting spur linking the school to the ongoing Efa–Mkpat Enin Road project. The motion, introduced under Order III, Rule I of the House’s Standing Orders (7th Edition), received the attention of the House during a recent plenary session.

The lawmaker decried the deplorable condition of the school’s internal roads, describing them as a major hindrance to academic and extracurricular activities. While commending Governor Umo Bassey Eno (PhD) for the progress recorded on the Efa–Mkpat Enin Road, he noted that the access spur to the school, as well as roads within the institution, have been left in a state of disrepair.

“The school, which has consistently earned recognition from WAEC and other examination bodies, is plagued by seasonal flooding, erosion, and deteriorating infrastructure — particularly in the hostel and administrative areas,” Ekpo-Ufot said.

He highlighted the health and mobility risks posed by unpaved roads, citing muddy and slippery conditions during the rainy season and excessive dust in the dry months, all of which negatively affect students, staff, and visitors.

Among the key concerns raised were, Severe erosion and flooding damaging access routes and facilities, Health hazards from dust and poor drainage, Restricted movement affecting academic work, physical training, and emergency vehicular access

Ekpo-Ufot warned that continued neglect of the school’s infrastructure threatens its academic excellence and undermines community pride. “This is not just a school problem — it is a matter of state investment and identity,” he stressed.

The motion specifically requested the Governor’s approval for the construction of internal road networks within Command Science Secondary School, Efa and the construction of a connecting spur (via Lagos Street) to link the school with the Efa–Mkpat Enin Road

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong, acknowledged the urgency of the matter and directed the Clerk, Mrs. NsikakAbasi Orok, to formally write to Governor Umo Eno, urging immediate intervention on the project.
