Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, has described Governor Umo Eno’s emergence as the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) Governor of the Year 2025 and the successful two-year evaluation of the ARISE Agenda as “clear rewards for excellent fiscal prudence and purposeful governance.”

The Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs spoke with journalists at the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo, shortly after the public presentation of the socio-economic impact of the ARISE Agenda on Thursday.

The lawmaker commended the Governor for what he called “two years of disciplined governance, data-driven planning, and measurable delivery that speak louder than political promises.”

He noted that both the NGF award and the mid-term ARISE Agenda scorecard were not mere coincidences, but the result of deliberate policies anchored on transparency, sectoral balance, and prudent management of state resources.

According to the Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, “Our leader, Governor Umo Eno, Ph.D, has proven that leadership is not about occupying an office, but about keeping faith with the people. His decision to subject his administration to public appraisal is rare in our political space. The NGF award only affirms what Akwa Ibom people already know, that his governance is inclusive, his leadership style humble yet firm, and his results verifiable.”

Hon. Okon eulogized the Governor’s record of delivering topnotch infrastructure; including roads, housing, healthcare provision, education and other components of the ARISE Agenda in Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency without resorting to borrowing, describing it as a rare feat in Nigeria’s current economic reality and a masterclass in public finance discipline.

He urged political leaders, stakeholders, and entire Akwa Ibomites at home and in the Diaspora to unite behind the Governor in consolidating the gains achieved so far, assuring of his continued partnership in advancing the ARISE Agenda in Itu/Ibiono Ibom.

“Good governance thrives when leaders and the people work together. I will keep working with our leaders from our beloved President of the Senate, Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio, GCON, His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, Ph.D and our leader, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR to deepen development, promote transparency, and attract projects that will directly improve the lives of my constituents,” Okon assured.

Meanwhile, the public presentation, themed “Measuring Progress, Deepening Impact”, featured a sector-by-sector review of projects executed under the ARISE Agenda. The event drew Ministers, federal and state lawmakers, traditional rulers, civil society leaders, and NGF representatives, who later presented the Governor of the Year plaque to Governor Eno.

By Asuquo Edem  The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has adopted a resolution calling for the immediate prohibition of all forms of sign-out celebrations in primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the state, citing growing concerns over moral decadence, violence, substance abuse and other anti-social behaviours associated with the practice. The resolution followed the consideration of a Motion on Notice sponsored by the Member representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency, Hon. Udobia Friday Udo, during plenary. Leading debate on the motion, Hon. Udobia argued that while educational institutions are established to promote learning, discipline, moral values and responsible citizenship, the culture of sign-out celebrations by graduating students has increasingly degenerated into activities that undermine these ideals. According to him, what was once intended as a celebration of academic accomplishment has, in recent years, become synonymous with indecent dressin...
