GHANA: SENATOR BASSEY CALLS FOR REGIONAL COLLABORATION AT AVIATION STAKEHOLDERS RETREAT

Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, Senator Aniekan Bassey, has called on aviation stakeholders to focus on aligning sub-regional priorities and enhance collaboration for the prosperity of the region.

Senator Bassey made this known on Tuesday in Accra, Ghana, where he is currently participating in a multi-day retreat brought together by key players from the aviation sector across West Africa, including regulators, airport operators, airlines, air navigation service providers, and cargo logistics experts.

According to Senator Bassey, the collaboration should be in the areas of Safety & Operational Efficiency, Regulatory & Infrastructure Projects, Sustainability & Green Transition, and Industry Coordination & Connectivity.

He hinted that participants at the retreat were reviewing “the implementation of Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) systems, improvements in air navigation procedures, and efforts to strengthen aviation oversight and regulatory innovation. Updates have also been shared on critical infrastructure developments, such as the construction of a new Air Traffic Control Centre and the digitization of aviation data platforms like Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR).”

Senator Bassey, in line with Nigeria’s vision for regional integration and improved connectivity, said he was actively engaging with stakeholders to promote cross-border collaboration, liberalization of regional routes, and a more integrated West African aviation ecosystem.

He assured that the retreat would produce actionable outcomes, including consensus on updated air navigation protocols, a roadmap for SAF adoption, and enhanced regional cooperation.

According to him, what was once intended as a celebration of academic accomplishment has, in recent years, become synonymous with indecent dressin...
