APC Revalidation: Ime Okon Gets Heroic Reception in Ibiono Ibom Ward 4, Drums Support for Tinubu, Akpabio, Gov Eno

The member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, on Friday received a rousing welcome from party faithfuls and stakeholders at Atai Ibiaku, Ibiono Ibom Ward 4, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area, during the ongoing All Progressives Congress (APC) membership revalidation exercise.

Okon, was accompanied by his wife, Deaconess Victoria Ime Okon, alongside Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Comrade Aniefiok Wilson Iwaudofia, Barr. Edet Ikotidem, and other political office holders.

The visit was in compliance with the directive of Governor Umo Eno urging all APC members in the state to return to their wards for revalidation and to register new entrants into the party.

APC stakeholders, including Akparawa Okon Imerh, Engr. Kufre Inyang, James Koffi, Margaret Hilary, the Ward Secretary, Youth Leader, Women Leader, as well as serving and former party officers joined in receiving the federal lawmaker.

Addressing his people, Okon, who holds the chieftaincy title of 'Utenghe Ibiono Ibom' expressed appreciation for the massive turnout and support from ward members. He used the opportunity to thank President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, a leader he said he has enjoyed a good relationship with for years, for being the forerunner of taking the state to the Centre noting that being in the same party with the Chairman of the National Assembly would attract more development to the constituency.

The lawmaker announced that he had, two months ago, moved progressively with Governor Umo Eno for the overriding interest of the State. Hear him: “I officially moved with the Governor on June 6, and today was to formalise that movement. I am a bona fide member of the APC, and by God's grace, through me, more good things will come to this ward and this federal constituency.”

Hon. Okon urged constituents whose names were not yet on the party register to seize the opportunity of the ongoing exercise to revalidate their membership, assuring that the new entrants were coming to add value, not to displace existing members. He cautioned against any form of factionalisation in Ibiono Ibom, stressing that unity was crucial in the interest of President Bola Tinubu, who, according to him, is favouring Akwa Ibom with strategic appointments and resources. The lawmaker pledged to adequately fund the party in the ward drawing a line under the era when party officers struggled with cash constraints.

The law luminary commended Governor Eno for his altruistic and inclusive leadership, citing the recently inaugurated Mother and Child Hospital in Okoita as part of the gains of aligning with the Centre. He also called for total support for President Tinubu and Senator Akpabio, stressing that delivering 100 per cent for the APC in Akwa Ibom would strengthen the state’s standing at the national level.

On his part, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Youth Mobilisation, Comrade Aniefiok Iwaudofia, described the revalidation exercise as a strategic move to strengthen the APC family and ensure the party speaks with one voice, in line with Governor Umo Eno’s directive. He underscored the need for Itu/Ibiono Ibom to have Hon. Ime Okon as a ranking member in the House of Representatives to secure greater federal presence and developmental projects. Iwaudofia rallied party faithful to close ranks and throw their weight behind Governor Eno, Obong Ime Bassey Okon and other APC leaders for a second term in office.

Earlier, the Ward chairman, Elder Okopedi Udousoro, popularly known as Atiku, while describing the parliamentarian as a dependable leader who has delivered for the people, also reiterated support for his reelection for the interest of the constituency.

An elder in the ward, Akparawa Okon Imerh, thanked God for bringing the federal lawmaker and other heavyweights into the APC, saying they would strengthen its chances.

Barr. Edet Ikotidem, while commending Governor Umo Eno for fostering unity across Akwa Ibom, particularly applauded Hon. Ime Bassey Okon for his effective representation, urging the ward to demonstrate unwavering loyalty to their leaders in positions of authority

Also speaking, Barr. Mfon Udeme who led a minute’s silence in honour of the late party leader in the area, Obong Anthony Akra, urged members to close ranks and work with one spirit, stressing that now is the season to reap the fruits of their labour.

Former councillor and women leader, Hon. Idara Udofia, pledged steadfast support for the APC at all levels in 2027, declaring that President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Senator Aniekan Bassey and Hon. Okon would all secure second terms.

On his part, Engr. Kufre Inyang welcomed Okon’s entry into the APC fold, warning against divided loyalty and calling for total commitment to the party’s unity to ensure all its leaders are returned for another term.

Meanwhile, the ongoing revalidation of membership and registration of new members will run through the month, in line with the directive of the party leader in the state, Governor Umo Eno.
