Akwa Ibom Architects Honour Rep. Ime Okon as Development Champion in Itu/Ibiono Ibom, ARISE Agenda*

 



In recognition of his steady contributions to infrastructure renewal and community-focused development projects in line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda, the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, has conferred the Itu/Ibiono Ibom Development Champion Award on the Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon.


The award was presented on Friday at the Institute’s 2025 Annual General Meeting and Awards Dinner held at Amunice Event Centre, Uyo.


The ceremony, themed “Revitalizing Architecture in Akwa Ibom Through the ARISE Agenda: Strategies for Survival and Growth Amidst Economic Challenges,” brought together leading architects, policymakers, top government officials, and development stakeholders from within and outside the state.


Represented by the Director-General of the Itu/Ibiono Ibom Unity Project Advisory Committee, Comrade Godwin Mbeke, Barr. Okon described the recognition as a “deeply humbling testament to service,” noting that the honour reinforces his commitment to his constituents and further inspires him to expand ongoing development interventions.


He expressed appreciation to the Institute for identifying with the work his office is doing, stressing that the award validates the deliberate steps taken to support infrastructural upgrading, community resilience, and sectoral growth in the federal constituency. He commended the NIA in the State, led by Arc. Edidiong Ukpong, Ph.D, for its professionalism, saying the Institute remains central to building standards, sustainable planning, and the future of the built environment in Akwa Ibom.


The Deputy Chairman, Intergovernmental Affairs Committee, reaffirmed his resolve to continue driving humanity-first representation anchored on the ideals of the ARISE Agenda, particularly in areas of rural development, community uplift, economic empowerment, and improvement of critical structures. He said Governor Umo Eno’s development blueprint has provided direction for measurable and community-driven impact at the grassroots.


The event drew notable government officials, architects, and development partners, who commended the federal lawmaker for his consistent support to community development and for promoting opportunities that strengthen the architectural and construction value chain in Itu and Ibiono Ibom.
