I’ve Been a Voice, Not Noise, in the House of Representatives - Mark Esset•• Flags off Second Phase of Free Four-Day Medical Outreach in Uyo, Nov 12

 




The Member representing Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. (Elder) Mark Esset, PhD, has said that his stay in the National Assembly has been defined by effective representation, purposeful engagement, and measurable results, stressing that he has been a voice, not noise in the House.


Speaking in a no-holds-barred interview on Atlantic 104.5FM on Tuesday, the federal lawmaker reviewed his 28 months in office, highlighting his achievements, ongoing interventions, and upcoming projects across his federal constituency.


Rep. Esset, who chairs the House Committee on Inter-Parliamentary Relations and is a former two-term member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, said his legislative experience has helped him deliver impactful representation and drive grassroots-oriented development.


He disclosed that he has successfully trained and empowered over 200 small and medium-scale business operators, as well as several youths in agricultural enterprises such as snail and poultry farming, as part of his human capital development initiatives.


The federal lawmaker, who recently sponsored a four-day free medical outreach across the 4 Local Government Areas of the Federal Constituency which benefited thousands, announced the flag-off of the second phase of the medical outreach in Uyo, beginning, Wednesday, November 12, through Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the Primary Health Centre, Ikot Ayan, Ikono Ward 1, Uyo Local Government Area, in collaboration with the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH).


The outreach, which runs from 9am to 6pm daily, will offer major surgeries, medical tests, consultations, treatments, eye care, and free drug dispensation, all at no cost to the public.


Rep. Esset further revealed that more than 200 students have received educational grants of ₦100,000 each to support a full academic session, cutting across the four local government areas of his constituency.


On infrastructure, he said road projects, water schemes, and streetlight installations he facilitated will be commissioned, including the construction of Ifa Atai Street, a motorised water project at Atakpo Street, and a sports facility in Idu Uruan. He also listed six-classroom blocks in schools across Ibesikpo Asutan and Nsit Atai, and the construction of the Eman Ukpa community road in Uruan, as among the ongoing projects facilitated through his office.


The lawmaker noted that his representation has remained people-focused, driven by consistent needs assessments and engagement with constituents. He disclosed plans for a stakeholders’ meeting on November 21, where he will interface directly with community representatives to further identify priority areas for development.


On legislative performance, Rep. Esset said he has sponsored three bills and four motions, all geared towards improving governance and living standards. Among them are the Bill on the Dichotomy Between HND and BSc Holders, and a Constitution Amendment Bill on Derivation Formula and Resource Control. He expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to assenting to human-centered bills passed by the National Assembly.


The Uyo federal lawmaker also announced his forthcoming mega empowerment programme scheduled for November 27 at Ibom Hall Grounds, describing it as the “mother of all empowerments,” where beneficiaries drawn from the 42 wards of his federal constituency will receive life-changing support to improve their livelihoods.


According to him, “A lawmaker is judged by lawmaking, oversight, and representation, and by the grace of God, I have ticked all the boxes. Representation for me means touching lives directly, not making noise.”


Rep. Esset, who has been vocal about continuity in the legislature, reiterated his advocacy for extended tenure for lawmakers, saying, “Longer-serving legislators attract more development and better committee placements that ultimately benefit their constituents.”


He thanked the people of Uyo/Uruan/Nsit Atai/Ibesikpo Asutan for their unfaltering support and assured them of continued service delivery at all times.
