Over 450 Flood and Rainstorm Victims Get Massive Relief Materials From Rep. Ime Okon

 




Persons affected by the recent flood and rainstorm disaster in Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas have received emergency relief materials facilitated by the Member Representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon.


The items, sourced through the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), were distributed to victims in Okopedi, Oku Iboku, Ayadehe, and Mbiabo communities, among others. The relief package included bags of rice, garri, salt, tomato paste, cartons of pasta, vegetable oil, and other essential supplies.






Represented by Comrade Godwin Mbeke, Director General of the Itu/Ibiono Ibom Unity Project Advisory Committee, Rep. Okon sympathized with the affected families and assured them of his continuous support. He said the intervention was part of his commitment to cushion the impact of natural disasters and stand by his people in times of need.


Hear him: “I know how much many of you have lost, and no relief can truly replace that pain. But please know that this comes from a place of deep care and concern. We will continue to stand with you and do more to rebuild your lives. I urge you to remain calm, law-abiding, and continue supporting the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno, who are both working tirelessly to make life better for people like you across our state. With your continued support, more good things will surely come to our Federal Constituency, because your Lawmaker is so committed and working hard for your welfare.”


In Itu, the distribution flag-off was held at the palace of the Paramount Ruler of Itu, HRM Edidem Edet Akpan Inyang, who described Rep. Okon’s response as swift and exemplary. The monarch lauded the federal lawmaker for his proactive leadership, adding that “his timely action restored hope to many affected households.”


Similarly, in Ibiono Ibom, the exercise took place at Presbyterian Secondary School, Use Ikot Oku, where community leaders, stakeholders, and beneficiaries turned out in large numbers to receive the items.


Speaking at the event, Elder Obong Usungurua, Village Head of Use Ikot Oku Group of Villages, thanked the lawmaker for what he called a “timely and humane intervention,” noting that the materials would greatly ease the burden of displaced families.


Dr. Victor Akpakpan, NEMA’s Head of Relief and Rehabilitation, commended Rep. Okon for his prompt communication with the agency, saying his swift action facilitated early assessment and delivery of the relief items.


Also, the Leader of Ibiono Ibom Legislative Council, Rt. Hon. Idorenyin Umoren, praised the lawmaker for his effective and people-oriented representation, and urged constituents to sustain their support for Barr. Ime Okon as well as the APC led administration at all levels.


Beneficiaries, including Chief Ita Jacob Umo and Mrs. Alice Ukeme Anyanga, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Rep. Okon, describing the relief items as a “lifeline” that came when hope seemed lost.


Other beneficiaries described Rep. Ime Okon as a man with a genuine heart for the people. They said only a leader who truly cares would remember them at such a difficult time. According to them, such kindness deserves God’s reward and more years in the National Assembly, as he has clearly followed the compassionate footsteps of Governor Umo Eno.


The exercise also had in attendance Mr. Tony Patrick, Hon. Patrick Udoh, and Mr. Mfon Ekpenyong, among others, who joined the delegation in supervising the distribution across the affected communities.
