Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Udeme Otong, has condoled with the family of Late Dr. Sunday Mbang, a former Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria.
Rt. Hon. Otong who paid a condolence visit to the deceased family on Wednesday, on behalf of other Members of House, noted that the Late Dr. Mbang was a revered religious leader who contributed immensely to the sustenance of peace in Akwa Ibom State, pointing out that he will be deeply missed for his fatherly roles and admonitions in the state.
"Prelate Mbang was a spiritual pillar whose life was a source of peace to Akwa Ibom State. He was a father, an adviser and a peace broker, so his death has created a vaccum in the state and he will be deeply missed", he said.
Accompanied by the Chief Whip of the House and member for Mbo State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Effiong Johnson, the Speaker hinted that the House of Assembly under his watch, will continue to identify with the Late Prelate Mbang's family, even after his funeral.
Responding, the Chief Mourner, Sir Ini Mbang, thanked the Speaker for the visit, despite his crowded schedules, assuring that the deceased family members will strive to protect Prelate Mbang's legacies.
He however, appealed to the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly( AKHA ) to immortalise the departed cleric, in recognition of his lofty contributions to the growth , development and stability of the state.
Prayers were offered for the deceased family and for peaceful repose of the soul of the Late Prelate Mbang whose remains will be laid to rest on Friday, August 11, 2023 in Eket LGA..
The departed Patriarch also served as President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and first black President of the World Methodist Council.
