Interface: AKHA Speaker Engages Assembly Staff, seeks Commitment, Urges Against Redundancy






The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly ( AKHA ), Rt. Hon. Elder Udeme Otong, has tasked staff of the House of Assembly and that of the Assembly Service Commission on the need for them to take their job seriously, even as he warned that acts of absenteeism, redundancy and loitering during official hours would no longer be tolerated.


Speaker Otong, flanked by the members for Oruk Anam, Prince Sampson Idiong, that of Mkpat Enin, Hon Uwem Imoita , his Ini counterpart, Hon Lawrence Udoide and the Clerk of the House, Mrs NsikakAbasi Orok, gave the charge  during an interface with staff of the Assembly at the Chapel of the Assembly in Uyo on Tuesday,22/8/2023.


He thanked them for their contributions to the success of the legislative arm of government and by extension the development of the State,  stressing the need for them to redouble efforts, assuring that the 8th Assembly under his watch is committed towards improving their welfare.


“I retired as a Director in the Civil Service, so i know what  to do to improve on workers' welfare and what workers can do for me to succeed. I've been here for the past years, and I've seen what you've done for the success of Akwa Ibom House of Assembly and the State Government”.


The Speaker who is a former Chairman, Joint Public Service Negotiation Council and former Chairman, National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Mid-wives, NANNM, solicited their cooperation and support for the success of the 8th Assembly.


Setting the tone for the interface, Clerk of the Assembly, Mrs. Nsikakabasi Orok, described Speaker Otong as a prgamatic leader and father who is committed to the wellbeing of workers in the Assembly, and assured him of the unflinching support and cooperation of Staff.  


The Chairman, Parliamentary Staff Association, PASSAN, Akwa Ibom Chapter,Comrade. Uduakobong Ebong Okon, while responding onbehalf of members, lauded the Speaker for deeming it necessary to address them and expressed hope that the meeting would afford the Speaker the opportunity to appraise challenges affecting the staff with a view of proffering solution. She used the opportunity to intimate the Speaker on issues of Staff concerns, and pleaded that necessary steps be taken to address the concerns raised.
