Frank Archibong Tasks Village Heads On Commitment To Rural Development, Peace And Security




In furtherance of the rural development drive of  Pastor Umo Eno-led administration in Akwa Ibom State, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong has called on  Village Heads to intensify efforts  towards enhancing peace and security in their respective communities for rapid development to thrive.



The Commissioner gave the charge when he played host to the Coordinators of Mboho Mme Eteidung (Clan of Village Heads) across the 31 Local Government Areas of the State which took place in Uyo on Friday.


The Chieftaincy Affairs helmsman said the imperative of  rubbing minds with the royal fathers   was  to intimate them of the rural development template as capture on the Arise Agenda of the present administration for them to buy-in  as critical stakeholders whose role is pivotal in achieving desired objectives .


 He reiterated the readiness of Governor Umo Eno to advance good governance in the State particularly grassroots development , charging  the royal fathers to up their be game while assuring them of robust engagements with State Government on a regular basis.  


On the  incessant vandalization of Government properties ,Hon Archibong   enjoined the Village Heads to take proactive steps to cupp the anomaly, stressing the need to constitute security management teams in their domains as well as hold  regular security meetings , hinting that plans are underway for the new Ministry of Internal Security  to interface with stakeholders as Government is poised to sustain existing peace and tranquility in the State.


He thanked them for thier firm  support during and after the election which saw to the emergence of Pastor Umo Eno as Governor, and charged them to remain  formidable in their support for the new administration to succeed.

"We must partner and support  the  Government to succeed at all levels. We really need to work as a family and as a formidable team".  


Archibong further spoke of training and retraining of traditional rulers to bolster  their capacities to function; "once we are done with taking stock of all village heads in the 2,272 gazzeted villages and have their valid data base, we will organize seminars and leadership trainings to properly equip you with updated traditional laws of Akwa Ibom State"


While assuring that Government would wade into  issues confronting their smooth operations,  the Commissioner however warned against untoward behaviors that could  earn them sanctions or withdrawal of Certificates of Recognition.


In their separate remarks, the  Village Heads of Ibiaku Clan in Mkpat Enin LGA., Eteidung Boniface Silas Ekanem, Eteidung David Ime Ibibom,  Ikot Use Ekong, Eket LGA, Eteidung Francis Morgan Udo,Aka Offot, Uyo LGA., Eteidung Okon Edet Effiong,Nna Enin, Uruan LGA, Eteidung Jeremiah Akpan, (Ini) and Obong Emmanuel Unaedet (Abak), pledged  to collectively support  Governor Umo Eno's government to boost rural security, good governance, guaranteed peace.


They lauded the Commissioner, Frank Archibong for being a square peg in a square hole, describing him as dynamic, accessible and resourceful capable of articulating the vision of Governor Umo Eno in the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs sector.


The LG Coordinators of Mboho Mme Eteidung appealed to the State Government to further upgrade their welfare packages in view of the present economic reality for them to function optimally , verification of families before creating a village out of it, protection against open grazing , sharing of palliative on demographic basis,etc.


The well attended meeting also had the presence of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Elder Ini Ikie,, Secretary, Akwa Ibom State Traditional Rulers Council, Mr Emmanuel Umontuen  and Staff of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.
