Educational Support: Mkpat Enin Lawmaker Disburses N10.5M To 105 Students, Pledges Women Empowerment

Students of Mkpat Enin origin studying in various higher institutions across the country could not hold their joy yesterday as the member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Uwem Peter Imoh-Ita disbursed ₦100,000 each to 105 students.

The lawmaker said the gesture was part of his commitment to giving back to the student community and encouraging academic excellence.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony held in the Assembly Complex, Hon. Imoh-Ita explained that the beneficiaries were carefully selected based on merit and expressed hope that the support would ease the financial burden many students face in the course of their studies.

“This is my way of supporting the educational pursuit of our young people. I understand what it means to be a student because I was once a student leader myself. I know the challenges — paying school fees, getting books, and surviving the academic journey,” he said.

He added that the intervention would be sustained annually, with future support tied to beneficiaries’ academic performance. He also appealed to students who were not captured in the current batch to remain patient, assuring them that the initiative would go round.

The lawmaker dismissed speculations that the scholarship gesture was politically motivated, stressing that his motivation stemmed purely from a desire to uplift the student community and invest in the future of Mkpat Enin youths.

In the same breath, he announced plans to empower 40 women in the constituency through a skills acquisition programme covering fashion design, hairdressing, baking, and automobile repairs, scheduled to commence within the next two weeks.

Several dignitaries and student leaders who attended the event commended the gesture.

Obong Iwang Inyang described the initiative as “timely and commendable,” urging the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds and focus on their studies. Ekaette Usip lauded the lawmaker’s show of love for students and advised the recipients to see the support as a challenge to excel.

The National President of the Mkpat Enin Students Association also expressed gratitude, noting that the intervention had rekindled hope among students of the area.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Joy Frank and Oku Ita, thanked the lawmaker for what they described as a life-changing opportunity.

“We are thrilled by this generous support; it will go a long way in helping us. Thank you for this investment in our future,” said Joy Frank.

Also speaking, Isaiah Lawrence, the chapter chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in the area, commended the lawmaker for keeping to his campaign promises and urged him to sustain the people-oriented initiatives.
