Okobo Lawmaker Bassey Bassey Showcases Two-Year Scorecard, Lists Bills and Empowerment Strides

The Member representing Okobo State Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Environment in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Bassey Pius Bassey, has presented his two-year scorecard, highlighting legislative achievements and community empowerment projects.

Speaking during a media chat at the Assembly complex in Uyo on Friday, the lawmaker thanked the people of Okobo for their support and pledged continued effective representation in line with Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda.

Hon. Bassey said his stewardship focuses on human empowerment, community development, and unity. He disclosed that within two years, he had sponsored and co-sponsored several key bills, including the Bill to Regulate Scrap Metal Dealers (HAB 367), the Agricultural Loans Amendment Law, the Cultural Heritage Preservation Law, and the Infrastructure Safety and Management Agency Bill, among others.

He also moved motions of urgent public importance, notably seeking government intervention in the Obufi–Ube Ebighi–Nda–Akibabo Road and Okobo–Nsie–Eweme–Oyubia Road, both crucial to local economic revival and safety. Other motions addressed flood control and environmental protection.

Outlining his constituency interventions, Hon. Bassey listed the establishment of a constituency office in Okobo, the purchase of 200 UTME forms, and payment of school fees for 20 indigent students. He also sponsored the Okobo Arise Youth Football Tournament, distributed palliatives and educational grants, and donated two cars to constituents.

He further facilitated market stalls construction in Okopedi, built a three-classroom block at St. Theresa’s Catholic School, provided a hybrid borehole, and renovated and equipped an ICT centre at St. Theresa’s Primary School.

As Chairman of the Committee on Environment, he said his oversight duties have covered oil spill remediation, ecological site inspections, and sanitation tours across the state.

Hon. Bassey also announced the donation of laptops to constituents and plans to distribute business and educational grants, as well as sewing machines and hairdryers before the year ends.






He lauded Governor Umo Eno for ongoing infrastructure projects in Okobo, including the Okobo–Nsit Atai Road, Okobo–Uyah Oron Road, and a model primary school.

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, Comrade Nsibiet John, commended the lawmaker’s outreach and urged him to extend future empowerment to journalists. 

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries ,Comrade Anthony Jackson, thanked the lawmaker, saying the laptop gift would enhance their productivity.

Also present was the immediate past chairman of the NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council and presently SSA to the State Governor on Local Media, Comrade Amos Etukudo.
