Prince Ukpong Akpabio Rewards First-Class Graduate, Reaffirms Commitment to Academic Excellence

 



The Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Prince Ukpong Akpabio II, has fulfilled his campaign pledge to promote education by rewarding a fresh first-class graduate from his constituency.

During a brief ceremony at his office in the Assembly Complex, Uyo, on Tuesday, the lawmaker presented a ₦200,000 cash award to Mr. Godwin Cornelius Stephen, who recently graduated with First-Class Honours in Civil Engineering from the University of Uyo.

The gesture formed part of the Prince Akpabio Annual Grand Prize for First-Class Graduates, designed to celebrate academic excellence among indigenes of Essien Udim Local Government Area.




“This reward is not just for Godwin, but a message to every young person in Essien Udim that hard work, discipline, and excellence are always recognized and celebrated,” Prince Akpabio said.

He encouraged the awardee to pursue professional certification with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and assured continued support for intellectual development across the constituency.

Prince Akpabio, who serves as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Development, also urged other students to emulate Stephen’s dedication, stressing that “education remains a powerful tool for transforming lives and building a prosperous community.”

In his remarks, the recipient, Mr. Godwin Stephen, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for his encouragement of young scholars, saying the recognition would further motivate him in his professional journey.

Accompanied by his father, Mr. Cornelius Stephen, the honouree received commendations from the elder Stephen, who lauded Prince Akpabio for inspiring both students and parents to value education.

The latest presentation brings to five the total number of beneficiaries of the Prince Ukpong Akpabio First-Class Prize in the last two years.

Previous recipients include Edidiong Justine John (Accounting, Akwa Ibom State University), Ubong Ene (Nigerian Law School), Ubong Umoren (Mechanical Engineering, University of Uyo), and Joseph Friday Ibanga (Adult and Non-Formal Education, University of Benin).

Improved Working Conditions For Teachers In Rural Areas Underway As AKHA Advocates Provision Of Live-In Quarters

Secondary school teachers posted to rural areas in the State would have a sigh of relief as lawmakers of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has advocated to the State Government for the provision of live-in quarters to reduce the burden of transportation and solve issues of accomodation.  This was sequel to a report presented to the House by the Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon. Kenim Onofiok during Plenary today. Hon. Onofiok informed the House that the Committee had invited stakeholders from the Ministry including Commissioner for Education, Chairmen, State Secondary Education Board, Permanent Secretaries to discuss on the matter.
