The Member representing Essien Udim State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Prince Ukpong Akpabio II, has fulfilled his campaign pledge to promote education by rewarding a fresh first-class graduate from his constituency.
During a brief ceremony at his office in the Assembly Complex, Uyo, on Tuesday, the lawmaker presented a ₦200,000 cash award to Mr. Godwin Cornelius Stephen, who recently graduated with First-Class Honours in Civil Engineering from the University of Uyo.
The gesture formed part of the Prince Akpabio Annual Grand Prize for First-Class Graduates, designed to celebrate academic excellence among indigenes of Essien Udim Local Government Area.
“This reward is not just for Godwin, but a message to every young person in Essien Udim that hard work, discipline, and excellence are always recognized and celebrated,” Prince Akpabio said.
He encouraged the awardee to pursue professional certification with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and assured continued support for intellectual development across the constituency.
Prince Akpabio, who serves as Vice Chairman of the House Committee on Economic Planning and Development, also urged other students to emulate Stephen’s dedication, stressing that “education remains a powerful tool for transforming lives and building a prosperous community.”
In his remarks, the recipient, Mr. Godwin Stephen, expressed gratitude to the lawmaker for his encouragement of young scholars, saying the recognition would further motivate him in his professional journey.
Accompanied by his father, Mr. Cornelius Stephen, the honouree received commendations from the elder Stephen, who lauded Prince Akpabio for inspiring both students and parents to value education.
