Rt. Rev. I. A. Obie, bishop of the African Church, Ikot Ekpene diocese has admonished Christians not to create gods for themselves. He gave this charge while delivering his opening speech at the first diocesan council of the church held in Ikot Ekpene, recently.
.
Drawing his message from the prophecy of Isaiah 49:9-20, the chief shepherd pointed out that the creation of gods goes beyond the carving and veneration of idols from wood.
.
"An idol is anything you place higher in esteem than God almighty," the man of God defined.
.
Stating further, bishop Obie stated that if Christians become exponents and apostles of falsehood - instead of righteousness - in total obedience to a leader who is taking them off the path of truth, then the venerated leader has become a god to such a Christian.
.
Warning christian faithful to be wary of any situation that may lead them to create idols, the diocesan advised Christian faithful to always defer to the undiluted Word of God as a standard of operation.
.
"God's Word in its pure state should always guide us in our journey through life so that we do not fall into the trap of creating gods for ourselves, " Obie concluded.
.
Meanwhile, the bishop is billed to go on Episcopal visit to The African Church, Emmanuel Parish, tomorrow. Christian faithful are invited.
