No Compensation On Illegal Structures Says A'Ibom Govt

The Akwa Ibom State Government says it has no plans to pay compensations for illegal structures affected by its road projects on Ring Road 3 since they were already paid by the immediate-past administration.

Commissioner for Works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-Eyen made the disclosure, Monday, after supervising demolition of 'marked' structures.

"What we discovered from the record of government is that the total compensation on this road; Ring Road 3, had been paid by previous administration. Therefore, any structure on the alignment of Ring Road 3 will be demolished without another compensation because it has been previously paid", Inyang-Eyen stated while fielding questions from newsmen.

Continuing, the Works Commissioner hinted that, "Any structure on the alignment of this road is illegal because it has neither an approved building plan nor Certificate of Occupancy, therefore government is not going to do a repeat payment of compensation because it has been previously paid during the government of His Excellency, Chief Godswill Akpabio".

He explained further that, "from Idoro, through Jonathan Boulevard where we have the Stadium to Aka Nnung Udoe Road to Ifa Ikot Okpon where it's supposed to cross to Nwaniba Road, was one contract that was given to Julius Berger", divulging that, the construction giants did a part of the job and stopped at Aka Nnung Udoe.

The Works boss hinted: "The continuation of the work is what Hensek Integrated Services are doing and I want to thank youth of this area for the massive support and cooperation they have given the contractors".

On why the governor is still embarking on several life touching projects when he was supposed to campaign for his second term, Inyang-Eyen stated emphatically that the State Chief Executive does not play politics with development.

His words: "His Excellency, Mr Udom Emmanuel is one Governor that that does not mix elections with development. You won't see him play politics with development, that is why any sincere Akwa Ibom person will tell you his Governor is a trustworthy and honest man"

On his part, the Managing Director, Hensek Integrated Services, Engr. Uwem Okoko, assured that his company will complete the job to specifications, and before the stipulated period.

Speaking with The Town Crier Newspapers reporter, the Youth President of Ifa Ikot Okpon, Emmanuel Edet John, expressed joy over the commencement of work on the road, saying when completed, will give a new lease of life to the community.

Flanked by innumerable number of youths who accompanied the Commissioner's team to different demolition spot, Emmanuel John, assured youth's readiness to massively vote for Governor Emmanuel and other PDP candidates in the forthcoming general elections to sustain peace in Akwa Ibom and good governance.
