Akwa Ibom Government Denies ₦50,000 Stipend Promise to Unsuccessful Civil Service Applicants

By Asuquo Edem

The Akwa Ibom State Government has dismissed reports circulating on social media claiming that Governor Umo Eno promised a ₦50,000 monthly stipend for unsuccessful applicants in the ongoing Civil Service recruitment exercise.

The clarification was issued on Wednesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Ekerete Udoh, who described the reports as “false and totally misleading.”

According to Udoh, the governor never made such a pledge during his speech at the grand finale of the Town Square Meeting/Empowerment Programme for Etinan Federal Constituency, held on August 23 at Ikot Edibon, Nsit Ubium Local Government Headquarters.

He explained that all applicants for civil service jobs are required to undergo a Computer-Based Test (CBT), and only those who pass will advance to the oral interview stage. “At no stage did His Excellency, the Governor, or the Government of Akwa Ibom State announce or consider any payment of monthly stipends to unsuccessful applicants,” Udoh stated.

Clarifying further, the governor’s spokesman noted that the ₦50,000 grant being referenced is a one-time support fund available to all youths registered on the Arise Employment Portal under the government’s empowerment programme. He stressed that the grant is not connected to the civil service recruitment process and should not be misconstrued as compensation for failed applicants.

Udoh also reiterated the governor’s commitment to transparency and merit in the ongoing recruitment. “The process will remain fair, transparent, and strictly merit-based. There are no slots allocated to anyone,” he said.

The state government advised members of the public to disregard the false reports and rely only on official communication channels for credible information.
