Chairman’s Cup 2025: Ifiok Akpabio Receives Trophy, Pledges Support for Grassroots Football






The Special Assistant to the Governor of Akwa Ibom State on Youth, Hon. Ifiok Akpabio, has applauded the organizers and winners of the 2025 Chairman’s Cup, pledging continued support for grassroots sports development in Uruan Local Government Area.


Hon. Akpabio received the trophy from the winning team of Northern Uruan Ward One during a ceremony where he also offered financial support and connections to further encourage the players. In addition to the official ₦1 million prize money, he personally boosted the team’s morale with extra cash gifts.


Commending the sponsor of the competition, Executive Chairman of Uruan Local Government Council, Hon. Surv. Iniobong Ekpenyong, Akpabio noted that the tournament aligns with Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda, aimed at harnessing and nurturing young talents.


“This initiative is not just about football; it’s about discovery, empowerment, and positioning our youths for greater opportunities,” Akpabio said.


Supervisor for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Liberty Usanga, who officially presented the trophy to Akpabio, lauded his consistent support for young players, describing him as a dependable pillar for grassroots sports.


Coach Akaninyene Esoh, on his part, assured that the team would work hard to retain its championship status in future editions of the tournament.


Dignitaries at the event included Hon. Chris Ukpong, Hon. Tony Asuquo, Hon. Tony Mike, Hon. Ifiok Asuquo, Coach Samuel Anieting, team captain Mfon Chrysanthus, and Francis Idio, among others.

Improved Working Conditions For Teachers In Rural Areas Underway As AKHA Advocates Provision Of Live-In Quarters

Secondary school teachers posted to rural areas in the State would have a sigh of relief as lawmakers of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has advocated to the State Government for the provision of live-in quarters to reduce the burden of transportation and solve issues of accomodation.  This was sequel to a report presented to the House by the Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon. Kenim Onofiok during Plenary today. Hon. Onofiok informed the House that the Committee had invited stakeholders from the Ministry including Commissioner for Education, Chairmen, State Secondary Education Board, Permanent Secretaries to discuss on the matter.
