Government insiders say the redeployment of Capt. Iniobong Ekong (Rtd.) from the Ministry of Lands and Town Planning to Trade and Investment, and the movement of Dr. Ubong Inyang in the reverse direction, is directly linked to sweeping reforms in land administration.
Earlier, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Essien Udom, SAN, announced the revocation of all land allocations made between May 29, 2023, and August 25, 2025, citing the need to migrate to the new Akwa-GIS digital platform. All allocations and transactions are now suspended for one month, with a two-month revalidation exercise to follow.
The Ministry of Lands and Town Planning — now under Dr. Inyang — is expected to drive this sensitive process, while Capt. Ekong is being repositioned to strengthen Trade and Investment in line with the administration’s economic agenda.
Analysts in Uyo say the shake-up signals Governor Eno’s intent to sanitize land management, curb irregular allocations, and keep his team on their toes as the ARISE Agenda enters a critical phase.
