Uyo, Akwa Ibom State – Governor Umo Eno has assured that the ongoing recruitment of 3,000 workers into the Akwa Ibom State civil service will be conducted strictly on merit through a transparent computer-based process.
Speaking during the August Monthly Prayer Service at the Latter House Chapel, Government House, Uyo, Governor Eno disclosed that about 15,000 applicants are vying for the available slots. He explained that the screening exercise would be conducted through computer-based tests (CBT), with instant results provided to candidates.
> “As you finish, the result comes out for you to see whether you passed or not. Don’t bother sending me text messages for slots—it’s not possible. For once, we will do this one purely on merit,” the governor said.
He noted that the CBT process would trim down the applicants to 5,000 before oral interviews commence, adding that the approach was designed to ensure fairness and eliminate undue influence.
The governor also urged unemployed youths to take advantage of available opportunities by applying through the state’s official job portal.
Projects Inspection and Youth Engagement
Governor Eno, who recently embarked on a two-day inspection of projects across the state, expressed satisfaction with the level of work and the number of young people employed at construction sites.
> “We have about 60 projects across the state and were able to inspect 23 key ones. Everywhere I went, my joy was seeing young people—male and female—actively working. It shows our people are engaged,” he said, while cautioning youths against a “sense of entitlement.”
Food Distribution to Resume
The governor further announced that the third phase of the state’s food distribution programme for the vulnerable will begin on August 20, 2025. He directed the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs to release dates for various local government areas and urged stakeholders to assist in smooth coordination. Only citizens with valid food vouchers, he emphasized, will be attended to at distribution centres.
Celebrating Akwa Ibom Achievers
Continuing his tradition of honouring indigenes excelling in their careers, Governor Eno recognized Mrs. Obot Bassey for her recent promotion to Assistant Commandant General of Narcotics in the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
He also commended the day’s homilist, Bishop Gabriel Nkanang, for his message on the theme “Run the Race” drawn from Hebrews 12:1-2, which urged Christians to pursue life’s journey with patience and discipline.
